You know how people always say “you only get 18 summers with your kids, so don’t waste them? Well that is cruel, especially for this postpartum mama who loves summertime with her babies, haha! It is true that the years are just flying by, and I always feel a little angry that we missed the first 6 summers with Sonya. I think because we missed those first years, it feels even more important to make the most of every year.
Recently we’ve had a lot of heart-to-hearts about what life looks like as my girl gets older. How she will always be our kid, and how she will always have a place to come home to, even after she’s ready to move out on her own one day. It is both so sweet and also so sad watching her grow.
This beach trip I watched as she made friends with other middle school girls to play volleyball with on the sand instead of playing in the sand with her little brother.
She laid out to tan with me at the pool and told me she liked being a teenager, and was excited to play football with one of the boys at the pool who she had a little crush on.
She helped with her new little Sis and made peanut butter and jellies for everyone.
Little by little, she is growing up on us and I am so grateful we were able to take a break to make some new memories together, including all the baby snuggles and a jet-ski ride with her mama! Take the trip, friends. And take the photos!
Peyton and I watched the sunset over the balcony every evening and watching the skies turn pink over the ocean while I nursed her was one of my favorite parts of every day.
Of course the night we planned to take photos, the sky was covered in clouds, but here are a few favorites anyway.
